SENSITIVE MATERIEL/SECURITY/KNOWN HOSTILE COMPETITORS/ZERG/PILLAGERS
ZERG/PILLAGERS/OVERVIEW
The Pillagers
A unique and extremely dangerous brood of Zerg, the Pillagers would have been the most fascinating find in terms of Zerg research for both the Protoss and the myriad groups of Terrans, had it not been for that fact that during the Brood War, no one was in the mood to research the Zerg when they were busily being torn apart. Numerous theories surround the Pillagers; some say that they are a remnant brood of the Overmind, others a remnant brood of Kerrigan, like Maar, but the most commonly propagated theory is that they are, in fact, a sort of ‘raider’ group that, in lieu of actual armed conflict, represents the Queen of the Blade’s power. The Pillagers earned their name by destroying certain installation, stealing certain files or artifacts, and delivering them to certain dead drops which are soon overwhelmed by other Zerg.
All these events seem to identify the Pillagers as the agents of Kerrigan, used to steal valuable targets. However, this theory is not concrete; there are several issues with it. One, the brood appears to be controlled by a Cerebrate, despite Kerrigan’s extermination of such; two, it appears to be comprised mostly of obsolete Zerg strains, namely older versions seen in the Great War, including a vicious cadre of Hunter Killers, the Pillager’s signature soldiers.
The Pillagers' most recent activity appears to be the raiding of Chau Sara. Systematic searching by the Zerg has slowly but surely covered most of Chau Sara's surface, with the exception being the twin Reconstructionist cities of Collinsburg and El Dorado. The Zerg have steadily been applying pressure to the colonists, and it appears that in the long run, the Zerg will grind the colonists down into a pyrrhic victory.
ZERG/STRAINS/SPECIALIZED/HUNTER KILLER
Hunter-Killer
First recorded as a separate strain on the Confederate homeworld of Tarsonis, the Hunter-Killers have been consistently described as a particularly vicious breed of Hydralisk. Brighter-colored than their lesser cousins (they are a shade of rust) and around two to four times larger than standard hydralisks, Hunter-Killers represent the deadliest form of Hydralisk. Faster than the norm, they are also capable of firing spines faster and farther than the usual Hydralisk. They are also better-armored, and are far more resistant to the usual armor-piercing gauss bullets.
They were first deployed as the guardians of the Chrysalis, the embryonic stage of what is now the Queen of the Blades. When the Queen Kerrigan hatched, they served as her personal guard.
Snatches of video from the Confederate science vessel Amerigo that leaked onto public nets show controversial images of Hunter-Killers taking down Ghosts. Their last recorded use prior to the Pillagers was with the Cerebrate Maar—likely for use as bodyguards.
With the Pillagers, the Hunter-Killers have replaced the Hydralisk, now serving as their primary strike, assault and defensive troop. Highly dangerous, few, if any, have been killed by the Prospector Corps of the Reconstructionists.
